In an earlier post I have written about my sweet niece Natalie and her battle with a severe type of Ehlers- Danlos. She was diagnosed when she was born and wore a body cast for the first 6 months of her life. She has suffered everyday of her life. I saw recently on the Foundation’s Facebook page a quote that I thought would help anybody with a chronic illness:
EHLERS DANLOS NATIONAL FOUNDATION
“Another myth that is firmly upheld is that disabled people are dependent and non-disabled people are independent. No one is actually independent. …Each of us relies on others every day. We all rely on one another for support, resources, and to meet our needs. We are all interdependent. This interdependence is not weakness; rather, it is a part of our humanity.” (A J Withers)
This quote puts dependence and independence in a new light. We are never completely on our own. There is always something we need assistance with. I hope this finds its way to someone who needs to hear it today.

It’s such a truthful post…it needs to be said until we finally get it through our thick skulls: there is no such thing as complete autonomy. We need each other to survive and to thrive. Thank you for posting. 🙂
